How do I add an unsubscribe option and why is it important?
I'm sure we would all prefer that prospects don't ask to be removed from our lists, but it does happen, and there are ways to help you automate this so you minimize the need to manage things manually.
Having either an unsubscribe link or an unsubscribe phrase is helpful for prospects to remove themselves from your list and it helps you stay compliant with emailing rules.
How do I add an unsubscribe option?
Email Sequences provides two options:
- Unsubscribe Phrase (aka Reply Based Unsubscribe)
- Unsubscribe Link
An unsubscribe phrase tends to be much more natural and feels less like your email is automated. Unsubscribe links tend to be more accurate, but make your email look like it could be an email blast.
The best way to add either of these is to your Signature, which you can edit in the Mail Accounts section. Alternatively, you can add these to each message in your sequences, but the former option is much easier to implement and maintain.
Using an Unsubscribe Phrase
Email Sequences has a pre-set list of available unsubscribe phrases. If one of your recipients responds to any of your messages with the phrase "unsubscribe" or "remove me" in the first 15 or so words of their message, we'll automatically record this event in their prospect history and add this person to your unsubscribe list.
To make this clear, you can add a line at the end of your message indicating this such as:
- I have your email on my list, but if you don't want me to email you again, just reply "remove me" and I'll take you off
- Reply "unsubscribe" and you'll be removed from my list
These phrases feel a bit more natural in your email rather than feeling like an automated message.
You never have to worry about them again because even if you try adding them to a campaign we'll automatically skip them.

Adding an Unsubscribe Link
Use the Insert button to add an unsubscribe link to any message in your sequences.
Or better yet, edit your signature and use the Insert button to add an unsubscribe link in your signature which will automatically get added to all messages.
Just remember, unsubscribe links are unique to the prospect, so unsubscribe links won't work when sending a Test message. But don't worry, as long as you use the Insert option, the unsubscribe link will be added where you've inserted it.
